A Confession: My Secret Obsession
I used to have a serious problem. It cost me up to $60-$70 a month. I couldn’t stop myself. It was an addiction.
Magazines.
I blame my Dad! When I was younger he would take me down to the Newsagency on a Friday every fortnight and I got to get a magazine. I started out on Disney Adventures, then onto Girlfriend (think 17 magazine). When I was old enough to open the ‘sealed section’ I got to read Dolly (think Cleo for teens). Then I wanted to be a fashion designer and discovered Marie Claire. Then I added Cosmo, Cleo and Madison. Then after I visited America I became obsessed with Lucky and Glamour. When I decided I was more interested in being an interior designer I started on Real Living, ReadyMade and my beloved Domino. So… at one point I was buying about ten magazines a month. Yikes. I lied. It was probably more like $100 a month!
I blame the beauty of the magazine stand. They all sit there in their glossy goodness. More and more magazines are becoming like little books (case in point - Gentlewoman, Lula, Frankie) and the covers are too pretty to hide. I don’t buy that many magazines anymore, especially after I had a huge clean out and realised I’d probably spent the down payment for a car on what I was about to chuck in the bin. I now only buy Frankie magazine. Which is hard because it’s a bi-monthly publication. But i still walk past those magazine racks and look over them, wishing I had the money to buy them all!
Though there is no tutorial on how to make this pallet shelf from Apartment Therapy, but I imagine it can’t be too hard to make. I would love to have this in my home to display my favourite magazines, books and even prints. Taking a magazine off the shelf will be like shopping in my own home!
