Pretty Painted Pumpkins | Alisa Burke
These pumpkins are super classy. These are the kinds of pumpkins I imagine Oprah would have on her stoop. But hers would probably be made by Martha Stewart with real gold. Anyway, you can make these classy pumpkins for yourself with some great instructions from Alisa. I love the blue and pink pumpkins - they remind me of what Cinderella rode to the ball!
Big Scrappy Painting | Alisa Burke
I have a habit of ripping out pictures from magazines and then thinking - what the hell am I going to do with these?! This is a great solution - if you have images that are the same kinds of colours and subjects, they would look great like this. The ‘wash’ of paint brings the pictures together. Of course if you have a ton of fabric scraps like Alisa did, you can do that too (um, I have a big pile of scraps as well. I swear I’m not a hoarder)
Create A Large Text Painting | Alisa Burke
This is an amazing piece! And made with a canvas and…. shoe polish! Hah! Alisa says that it’s the easiest to use, plus it gives you that lovely dripping effect that makes it look like spray paint. I’m trying to think of what I would write on my giant canvas… maybe the lyrics from Such Great Heights by Iron & Wine, my favourite song!
Embellished Socks | Alisa Burke
It’s been a struggle finding good boots - I have big thighs/ankles and it seems that any boots that are wider around these areas are also larger in price! I have a great pair of boots that I bought years ago that are falling apart - they have lost the heel, the stitching is coming apart. I recently bought a pair of boots off of eBay that were super cheap and wider fitting (keep your fingers crossed for me that they fit!) and now I am filled with the joy of possibilities of outfits with boots. I came across these embellished socks on Alisa Burke’s website and totally fell in love with those rolled flower socks peeking over those boots! Sooo cute.
No Sew Braided Headbands | Alisa Burke
No sew, could any two words be sweeter?! Alisa always does the best DIYs. I’ve already done my favourite Fashion DIY sites, I think I’ll need to do my favourite accessories next. Anyway, headbands. I love headbands but I always feel like my head is in a vice when I’m wearing those cheap ones. And don’t get me started on the elastic ones - I don’t know if it’s the shape of my head but they always slide off. Is that just me?! Maybe I have a flat head. Geeze I’m off on my little tangents tonight. OK, these are really pretty and easy to make. So I’m going to make some. The end.
Rolling Pin Stamps | Alisa Burke
One of the best things about having a young, crafty neice is you get to try all the ‘kids crafts’ that you would be weird having on your own, haha! One of the best things is stamping. Mia has a tin full of stamps - she’s a bit stamp mad. I love the rolling stamps the best, as she does (especially rolling them over your arms!) These rolling pin stamps are like the grown up version of that, and best of all you can do lovely modern designs! This would also be great for aspriing fabric designers don’t you think? A quick and easy way of covering a lot of space in a short time. And if you had some stamps that you liked, you could even glue them to the rolling pin! Clever and simple!
Butcher Paper Wreath | Alisa Burke
When I first saw this, I thought - ugh, too hard. No, not too hard! This might be one of the easiest wreaths I’ve ever seen. When I make this (that’s right, not if, when!) I’ll make it with that lovely rich brown paper that they use to wrap boxes. That stuff is my favourite! I’m so glad I found this, I’ve been trying to find something new to hang up above my fireplace for ages. Sweet!
Embellished Shoulder Tee | Alisa Burke
Work those shoulders guuuuurl!
Sorry I’ve been watching a lot of old seasons of America’s Next Top Model. Tyra invades my thoughts! But yes, this tshirt is so awesome. I’ve mentioned my love of shoulder embellishments before and this is so pretty - Alisa Burke always does the nicest DIY’s. I have no idea how she is able to just do these lovely patterns free hand, a real talent!
Embellished Tank Top | Alisa Burke
It was hard to find just one tutorial from Alisa Burke that I liked - all her items are so pretty and fun. But this one particularly caught my eye because I bought a fabric pen the other day… and then had no idea what to do with it. I am so in awe of how she can just start drawing and come out with a gorgeous design like this!
