Recently I went on a cleaning spree and went through all my craft supplies. Yeah, it took a while. Among all my half finished projects (I’ll finish those soon…) I found a giant bag of assorted buttons that I didn’t realise I had! Some were bought by my friend Chelsea who got me some adorable ones from a button shop here in Adelaide, others were vintage ones from a work colleague who used to own a sewing business. So what do I do with all these gorgeous buttons?! Well this is the perfect DIY! It combines two of my favourite things - buttons and cardigans! Plus it’s cute to boot.
Ruffle Embellished Cardigan | Mismatcherie
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again - there’s not a lot in this world that can’t be improved with a ruffle! Especially clothes. This is a super cheap version of a expensive J Crew version. Perfect.
Summer Cover Up | Prudent Baby
This was originally called the ‘Hot Mess Mommy Cardigan’ but you don’t have to be a Mom to have to wear this! In Summer I hate being hot but I hate showing my arms. But cardigans are too warm to wear, and shrugs don’t always go with what I’m wearing. This is perfect as it’s made from rayon or voile, meaning it’s light weight and breezy! And I have some really pretty blue rayon just perfect for this…
Sparkly Sweater | Such Pretty Things
I always look at the pretty jewels and things in the craft stores but don’t know what to do with them, but now I do! This is a truly stunning cardigan, and so easy to make. I have a few plain cardigans that would benefit from a makeover like this. It’s very Kate Spade-esque don’t you think?!
Kate Spade Inspired Cardigan | Grosgrain
You already know of my love or Kate Spade. In particular I love her cardigans and therefore I am in love with this Kate Spade inspired cardigan by Grosgrain! You can see the original version here. I think I really need to make this! Especially seeing I realised today that I have basically no nice jumpers to wear in this frigidly freezing cold weather!
Make Your Own Cardigans | Megan Nielsen
Oh my gosh, heaven! I love cardigans, I think I have about… seven. Um. Yeah. Anyway, I would love to make my own and this seems like a really easy sewing project. This way I can have cardigans in all the colours of the rainbow!
Embellished Knit | Grosgrain
This is a great example of a top you can do with fabric glue if you don’t have access to a sewing machine. Isn’t it amazing how a little bit of trim can instantly transform a top?! Loving that daisy trim!
Cardigan Clip | Chic Steals
Speaking of cardigan DIYs, here is a super cute cardigan clip! Hmm, I think this would bring me full circle to Nana status! Haha! Who cares, it’s so cute!
Cardigan Revamp | Quiet Violet at My Girl Thursday
Sorry for the dodgy pic - I had to get a screen grab from the YouTube video! It’s such a sweet cardy, I just love the peter pan collar. I think I need to buy some more cardigans so that I can alter them!
Summer Cardigan | Thinking About You
Kmart was having a sale today and tshirts were only $1.50! You couldn’t make them for that! So my sister bought me a couple then I went up and bought some more. So now I have some dodgy old tshirts that I can cut up. I will keep some aside to make the tshirt rug I featured before, but I also have one I love that I don’t want to cut up. And as I’ve said before, I love cardigans, so what better way to re-use it than this?!
Spring Sweater Refashion | Tater Tots & Jello
When I saw this DIY I was like - yes! I feel the same way about scarves!
This refashion also uses a scarf. This is the problem — I buy scarves because I think they are so adorable but then I never feel like I know how to wear them. Or I feel too self-conscious to wear them.
I always buy the most beautiful scarves and then they sit lovingly in my wardrobe. Darn. They just never seem to look right. So adding them to a cardigan means I get to wear them and wear a cardigan. Win-win!
Feeling As Sweet As Candy | Oh Joy!
Joy always finds the most beautiful items out there. I would love for her to come and be my personal stylist! I adore that cardigan, and bonus it’s called ‘Pointillist’. A walking piece of Seurat style art!
Leather Disc Cardigan | Phosphene
Wow, this is one heck of a statement piece!Phosphene always does the most classy DIY’s out there, and this is no exception. Don’t you think it would look great in white too? Or even a scarf? I think the time it would take to cut out all those little circles would be worth it!
Embellished Cardigan | Grosgrain
I like ‘big shoulders’ on tops, and this is a great way to cover up a world of sins on a cardy (how is it that the more careful you are not to get stains on your clothes, the more you get and in the weirdest places?!) Cardigans & Lace = two of my favourite things together!
Anthro Inspired Cardigan | Wardrobe Re Fashion
I love Anthro knock-offs and this one is truly sweet. The copy version of the original is actually quite close to the original and so easy to do - and you get to go nuts with the sewing machine making the flowers!
