A lot of 80’s style crafts are making a comeback right now - including woven wall hangings - but in updated styles. But if you’re craft-challenged or just don’t have the time to macrame, this gorgeous piece is the perfect answer! Instead of knotting, this piece knots the yarn with thread and then ties the bunches onto a plastic canvas. You should be able to knock this out in an afternoon and enjoy your new retro, hand made and entirely one-of-a-kind piece of art!
These sweet lacey lights will definitely add some twinkle to any space you hang them! They are super easy (and fun) to make, and would look great hung above a bed or around a mirror.
I always see pretty yarn in the craft stores but because I’m not a knitter or a crocheter I always sadly leave it behind. These amazing yarn banners are so bright and colourful and perfect for bringing some fun to your walls.
No deer were harmed in the making of this decoration! How adorable - faux horns. Imagine these made huge and hanging above a fire place!
Dorm Decor Ideas | Babble
I know I have a few college students following me (hello! Hope it’s all going well!) plus I’m sure there are those of you who share a house who would love to get some tips on how to decorate your room to maximise the whole area. I adore this room - especially that painting above the bed! There are lots of tips and inspiring images for you to check out here, hopefully some that will help you too!
Butterfly Tree | Stylizimo
I have always wanted some of those tree stickers for my bedroom but the price has always put me off. This is such a cheaper solution but maybe a little harder to achieve! I wouldn’t suggest painting straight onto the wall (unless you are super confident!) but once you draw it onto the wall and you’re happy with it you can paint over it. I think the floating shelves look great too. Beautiful!
Faux Bois Vase | Centsational Girl
Oh my gosh, I thought that these vases were so much more complicated than they actually are! I love anything faux bois but more often than not it is quite expensive (and hard to find). This look is achieved by using sealant to draw the design, then spray paint over the top to create the ceramic look. Now that my cat has eliminated another vase, I’m looking for new ones so I think this is going to go on my DIY list!
Floating Hoop Chandelier | Real Simple
With the new year comes new decor in my home, and one thing I love is chandeliers - but chandelier prices don’t love me! This is like a modern Danish piece that I would expect to find in one of those trendy furniture stores where there aren’t any prices on things. But all you need is hoops of different sizes, some glue and fishing wire. Cheap and simple, high impact!
Lace Lamp Shade | Add Some Paint
This lamp shade follows the same lines as the coffee table I posted earlier - you simply wrap it in lace, spray with spray paint and peel off the lace- voila! You’re very own designer shades! And the fact that you can get lamp shades so cheap from places like IKEA, you can change up whenever you want. And of course if you don’t like lace you can use any other kind of pattern - use some store bought stencils or cut out your own.
Pom Pom Rug | Lion Brand Yarn
OK, quickly: how cute is that baby?!
Now that’s out of the way, how cute is this rug?! This is one of my favourite posts in a long time. Pom poms are so easy to make, and trust me, this would feel so nice underfoot! Plus, you can customise it to fit in with your decor. Get started on your pom poms folks!
Over The Door Decor Shelf | Home Depot
Straight off the bat: if you or anyone in your house has a tendency to slam doors, I don’t suggest you put your Ming vase on top of this decor shelf! OK, now we have that public service announcement over, this is great! And it looks gorgeous to boot. I have a lot of colourful boxes from perfumes/lotions/etc that I’m loathe to throw away that would look great above the door. It would just be a matter of remembering to dust!
Chicken Wire Wall | Ashley Anne Photography
So I know I said I was going to bed but I saw this and had to share! This might be one of the cleverest things I’ve ever seen, though when you say it out loud it sounds ridiculous! There are so many things I like about this room - the wall is great, and as Ashley says, it’s like a blank canvas that allows her to change up the art on the wall without putting masses of holes in the wall. I also love the fabric hanging over her four poster bed. I think I need to save up some money so I can get a four poster bed - I think they’re so sweet and lovely.
Ok, now I’m going to bed!
Hardware Store Decor | DIY Life
I like going through Hardware stores almost as much as I like going through Craft stores! There’s so much I want to buy - new door handles, shower fittings, tools, plants, pots, paint, etc! But I never look at things and think - could that make a good base for a coffee table!? I will now!
Swatch Portraits | Purl Bee
Another sweet wall art idea, this time one that is super easy to update and match to your decor.
DIY Fabric Wall Decals | How About Orange
Renters have it hard. Even if you live in a house with 70’s carpet, 60’s woodgrain panels and 80’s lighting, you just have to live with it! You have to get really savvy with your interior design, decorating with items that disguise the hideous but won’t ruin any of the main structure of the house! These fabric wall decals are a great idea - I would love to try covering a whole wall with fabric like wallpaper. The only thing I would worry about is if it didn’t come off properly… how would I explain that to my landlord?! ‘Oh yes, well… the reason all the paint is gone from the wall is… an unexplained mystery that I can’t explain!’
