To celebrate her book launch, Tilly & The Buttons is sharing one of the projects from her book on her blog - the very 60’s Brigitte head scarf! This is a very simple sewing project which is embellished along the edge with one of the decorative stitches in your machine. And if you’re wondering how to style your new scarf, Tilly has created a Pinterest board with lots of inspiration!
I’ve always loved Chanel… the clothes, the shoes, the makeup, the perfume… it’s all very lady like and chic! But Chanel chic comes with a high price, which means I’m all about ‘inspired’ pieces! And this piece is really easy to re-create. All you need is bucket studs (which have a flat top), some nail polish and a top to make over. Wear with a pair of skinny jeans and ballet flats and you’re set!
Wrap skirts are great! Easy to pop on (and you can fasten it to any length!). Don’t let the pleats on this skirt scare you away from trying to create this pretty piece - it’s all about pinning, pinning, pinning! This tutorial uses buttons to fasten the skirt, but there’s nothing stopping you from extending the waistband so you can tie the skirt closed.
Button downs have come a long way but honestly, it can be hard to think of how to wear one apart from with a pair of pants…or a skirt. So learn some new ways to wear an old classic with Brit + Co, plus shop some very cute animal print shirts!
This is like the mullet of sweaters - party in the back, business at the front! It’s really sweet and pretty, perfect for wearing on those weird days where it’s not quite warm, not quite hot.
So it’s true, everything in fashion is recycled, because skorts were huge when I was little! But of course, this skort is way cuter and fashion-forward than what I wore! And there are tons of gorgeous vintage scarves out there, check out the second hand stores or eBay.
Back To School DIY Fashion Math
The lovely haileyelizabeth399 requested some easy back to school fashion DIYs, so I’m going to bring y’all some easy DIY fashion lessons! You’ll find a mix of DIYs and cheap fashion buys. I hope y’all like them!:
You might remember the Caitlin Shearer dress I featured a while ago that had cookies on it - well now I have a new favourite in this girl scout badge dress. So so sweet. Unfortunately it only comes in 8,10 & 12 so it’s out of my range, but if you want it, wear it and think of me!
Take a queue from the big fashion brands this Summer and make yourself a wardrobe of sunglasses that you can mix & match with your favourite outfits! Pearl sunnies were big on the Chanel runways and are my favourite of the three - they would look great on a pair of cream framed glasses!
The other day when I was window shopping ASOS, I came across this gorgeous metallic & lace tshirt dress. Well unfortunately though I would love to own it, it’s a little out of my price range right now. Then a serendipitous event occured and I discovered this sequin skirt DIY! I’m not sure how easy it is to sew sequin fabric, but I’m willing to give it a try!
Pulling off vintage clothing is one of those tricky things that some people just seem to effortlessly do whereas some others look like they got stuck in a time warp! AP&AS has some great pointers on how to fit vintage clothing into your everyday wardrobe without looking like a crazy person!
I love this embellished sweater, such an easy way to makeover something so simple. It’s sweet and graphic and perfect for this much colder weather we are getting.
A lot of people have very specific styles - they will only wear gold, never wear anything ‘girly’ or refuse to wear flats. I’m very all over the place with my style - if I likes it, I’ll wears it! Which is probably why I find it hard to get dressed in the morning! But I do find that quirky jewellery pieces can bring styles together and are easy to dress up even the simplest of outfits. Don’t get stuck on the colours you see in the picture - if you’d prefer blue and white, go for it! That’s the fun part about DIY - you can make it your own!
All I seem to be thinking about at the moment is my travel plans for the end of the year, and the internet keeps giving me more fodder! AP&AS does a lot of travelling so she’s got the art of packing down to a t. I’m one of those people who doesn’t like to pack heavy but then always seems to forget something important (one time all I took on a trip was sneakers. Not so great when we went out for dinner!). I’m going to save this for the end of the year (time to start a travel folder!)
These bracelets are everywhere right now, on fashion blogs, all over Pintrest. So of course now I want my own! I’m not sure if they would have the bangle blanks at my local craft store (and they certainly won’t have the spikes!) so I’m going on Etsy for my supplies. I love the one with the diamantes!
