Easy DIY Flower Arrangements | Ellinee
Though I can’t afford to get gorgeous, florist arranged flowers delivered to my house every week (sigh. One day…) I occasionally like to buy myself a bunch from the supermarket. But supermarket flowers look so… supermarkety. If that’s not already a word then I claim it. Anyway, I usually try to be a florist and arrange them but they always end up flopping over. This is a fantastic way to arrange your flowers using tape in a criss-cross pattern. This helps them to not only look amazing but to keep them from wilting over the side of the vase, encouraging wily cats to bat at them!
DIY Gilded Flowers | Creature Comforts
I would never have thought to paint flowers, but it’s actually really sweet! Cut flowers won’t last very long anyway so why not? Pretty and glittery, perfect for giving to friends along with a personalised wrap!
Felt Flowers | It’s The Little Things
I can think of a million things you could do with these flowers. But here are a couple:
- add a pin on the back and make a brooch
- sew onto pillows
- make a crap load and hot glue onto a canvas en-masse
- stick a couple on a headband
- superglue them to your car
Don’t say I never give you anything.
DIY Felt Craspedia | Design Sponge
I really want to try felting but I don’t want to spend too much on it just in case I completely mess it up and I’m stuck with huge bunches of felt rovings to add to my ever expanding collection of lost & lonely craft rejects. But I think this is a winner - though Design*Sponge is crafty at making everything they do look absolutely stunning!

Paper Peonies | Martha Stewart
I love having flowers around my house…and so does my cat Sophie. In fact, she loves to nibble on anything grass or flower related! She doesn’t get to go outside here in the city because a) I don’t want any of the native fauna to be attacked by her (or attack her!) and b) she has a habit of making a run for it when she’s outside. So yes, any flowers inside are her joy! But I’m scared about her getting sick from snacking on flowers so I like to have faux flowers. And these aren’t creepy plasticy like faux flowers can be.
Also it means she won’t be knocking over vases filled with water. She always has fresh water (in more than one place!) but once I witnessed her picking flowers out of a vase with her paw and drinking the water. Cats are weird.
Anthropologie Inspired Blooms | Curbly
These pretty, modern flowers are made out of…. Q-tips! How cool is that?! These were inspired by large flowers in an Anthro store, but the little versions are just as cute. I’m not 100% sure how they are coloured - maybe food dye? Trial and error will have to be the way!
One Vase, Four Ways | ShelterPop
The one thing I give to friends for house warming gifts is vases. They’re something that people rarely buy for themselves, but when you need one, you’re thanful you have one! I love having flowers in my house, to the point that my mum has to throw them out because they’re dead. Oops. If I could, I would have fresh flowers in my house every week. But even when I do have them, I just chuck them in a vase. That’s why I love this DIY, it’s a great way to see different ways to present them. I love the lemon one! You place a smaller vase into a bigger vase and fill the space between the two with cut lemons. From now on when I get flowers I’m going to take some more effort to make them present as pretty as they are!
Flowered Ballet Flats | Chic Steals
I like the tag line for this DIY: Don’t buy, DIY! Classic. And it’s so true - I think I actually like the DIY version more than the original. And I love the price more too!
Love Bombs! by The Flower Drum | The Design files
I always wanted to work in a florist. I adore fresh flowers, and wish I could have them in my house all the time. I sometimes wish I had an adorable little flower shop down the road from me that I could visit all the time… and then I remember that you can’t eat flowers! So I usually end up buying cheapo flowers from Coles or Woolworths but they look so… blah. I don’t think I would be able to make a bomb as big as the ones pictured, but it certainly is inspiring - and a great idea for a home wedding or a big party!
Gorgeous Chiffon & Tulle Flowers
I have so many ideas on how these flowers could be used - on a hairband, a brooch, shoe cilps, en-masse on a singlet…
