I first saw this amazing room in HGTV Magazine and fell in love - the wall, the giant pom pom throw, that amazing headboard! Then I saw it pop up in my Pintrest feed and was so excited to see VR put up a DIY on how to make the headboard! It’s actually really easy to create - check out second hand stores for big picture frames or even pictures with great frames. There’s also tutorials on how to re-create the wall, the ombre paint and the bedside table.
I always get a little nervous when I post any DIY that involves altering books in anyway because I inevitably get a lot of comments/reblogs, etc of people saying ‘Sacrilege! Book destroyer! Gah!’. These bum me out but I also know that there are a ton of people who love these. I see it more as celebrating books and how much they mean to me than destroying them. These books would probably sit in a bin in an op shop before being chucked in the rubbish, so in a way you are saving them! I truly love this idea, though I don’t think I dust enough to justify having one! The beauty of this is that it’s also a statement piece so you’re not going to need a lot more decoration in your room. Just make sure you secure the books as directed or you might end up with your head in a book…literally!
DIY Tufted Headboard | Little Green Notebook
I love my home made headboard - it’s comfy to lean against when I’m reading, doesn’t let my head hit the wall, etc. But it’s a pretty dodgy version - I made it out of two canvases stapled together, padding over the top and then fabric. The buttons used to make it ‘tufted’ but they’ve all popped out! I’ve been looking to re-make one but I’m terrible with drilling holes. What sets this one apart is that you use peg board, meaning no holes and more precise tufts. I’m thinking of going with yellow to match my new lamps!
String Light Headboard | DIY Ideas
I love the idea of string lights in the bedroom but just sticking them up can seem a little messy. I like the softness of this and how nice would it be to read by this light?!
Gold Stencil Headboard | Simply Sjostedt
If you’re feeling like your bedroom needs a bit of a facelift, a headboard can really change a room. It can serve as a centre piece for the room, and you can then decorate the rest of the room around it. This is a really pretty design yet I doubt you would get any complaints from a gentleman. I really like the gold design - subtle yet it will really shine in the sunlight. Of course you don’t have to use gold or even this design but with a wooden base and some creativity you’re set!
Nailhead Trim Headboard | Centsational Girl
Speaking of bedrooms, my bedhead really needs a makeover and this is perfect. I really love the look of studs (if you’ve been reading my blog, I’m pretty sure you already know that!) and this would look great with that tissue paper background. Very classy and grown up, and pretty easy to make if you have or know someone who has a jigsaw. That is what I want next on my tools list. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t cut off my hand.
Painted Headboard & Free Download | Better Homes & Gardens
I found this headboard in a great set by Better Homes & Gardens. Not only is it a great idea, you can also download the pattern for the flower, so pretty and sweet for a little girl’s bedroom! I also love that this is clearly a very girlie room even with the blue wall - just goes to show it’s not what you put on the walls, it’s what you put in the room!
Vinyl DIY Headboard | Short Of Something
As I’ve said before, vinyl wall stickers have exploded onto the market and they don’t seem to be going away anytime soon! But it annoys me how much they cost at times - especially for something that is temporary. So I like to see people making their own, and this one caught my eye. Personally I find I need a real headboard - padded too - because I’m such a restless sleeper my pillows end up everywhere and I need something to protect my head from the wall! But I know some people can’t afford that, and having something certainly adds pizzaz to a room!
DIY Fabric Headboard | Grosgrain
I love the Grosgrain blog, she is such an amazing crafter. Currently she’s doing a bedroom makeover and is sharing her process with the crafty community. This headboard is from day 3, so make sure to check back on her blog to see the other two days. I’m lookibng forward to her Ruffled Duvet & the fur rug DIYs!
