Gretchen Jones Necklace | Honestly WTF
If you have been reading my blog for a while you will know that I have a bit of a fluro/metallic obsession at the moment! If you decide to make this, just be slightly careful as you need to melt the backs with a lighter to keep them in place, so please don’t burn your fingers with melted nylon!
DIY Dreamcatcher Jewelry | Rent The Runway On Campus
I remember making a dream catcher when I was younger. I hung it above my bed - I think it worked! I love these mini versions as jewelry. This is how to make a bracelet but you can also add hooks to wear them as earrings. If you would like to know more about dream catchers, click here!
Super Quick Saturday DIY: Felt Hairbows | Just Everyday Me
Is it just me or did Saturday come round super quick again?! Here’s a very cute DIY that won’t take you much time at all and is pretty cheap. There are so many colours of felt out there to choose from and even some pretty cute printed felts. Perfect for little and big girls alike!
Braided Belt Tutorial | Sew Mama Sew!
Speaking of belts, how about making your own? This is quite easy to make and great to be able to customise to your size. I find it hard to find cute plus size belts so this is perfect for me. I would probably make this in one colour like black or tan so it will go with more outfits, though I do love this white and tan mix!
Dyed Wooden Beads Necklace | Martha Stewart
These beads piled en-masse are so pretty! They have a soft, beachy feel to them, perfect with a white summer dress. I’ve been thinking of doing some dyeing but dye is so expensive that I want to make sure I get as much use out of it as possible!
Nautical Rope Bracelet | Rent The Runway
I’m digging these nautical rope bracelets! I’ve seen these before but they were about $100 and used a real lure from fishing - yikes! I would so end up ripping something with that. Probably my skin. But this DIY version uses a anchor charm instead, much safer!
‘A Knock At The Door’ Necklace | Stylecaster
Though I am, style wise, a very girly girl, I have a thing for modern/graphic jewelry! I think the combo of a floaty dress and ‘hardware’ jewelry looks fantastic. I love Stylecaster’s Hardcore DIY series that use hardware store items with traditional jewelry items to create really unique pieces. This necklace uses a little door knob - if you don’t like the black, a bronze or silver knob would look great!
Cut Paper Pendants | How About Orange
Something I’ve been meaning to tell y’all about for ages is my dad’s cutting machine. It’s like an industrial version of the Silhouette machine. If you’ve never heard of a Silhouette, it looks like a laminator but it has a blade underneath. You can cut paper, card, vinyl and fabric. It is so so fun to use and there are so many uses for it. As soon as I saw this project, I emailed it to my Dad and said - can we do this?! You just need to cut multiples of your desired shape and glue them together - once it’s dried it’s hard and you can attach the jump ring for the necklace.
Box Lanyard & Chain Bracelet | Studs & Pearls
So guys I’m still going on my friendship bracelets. They take forever to make. As I said before, I must have been a lot more patient when I was younger. And oh yeah, no job or internet! Haha! I’m loving all these crafts from my childhood, so when I saw this box lanyard bracelet I was taken back once again - do you remember making these when you were younger?! But I seem to remember that I never used as classy colours as this - mine were very fluro! Making it in gold and black with the bronze chain is a lot classier and would go with a lot more outfits. Though with fluro making a big come back at the moment, putting a fluro colour in with the black would be very fashionable too!
Vintage Tie Necklace | Green Eggs & Hamm
After seeing these gorgeous tie necklaces by Liliana Sterfield I tried so many search terms in google to try and find a tutorial! I found nothing. Then I was just doing my usual link jump (you know what I mean - you start here, jump to there, open that in a new tab, end up there - link jump!) and found this. The tutorial gods were smiling on me! Liliana’s necklaces double up with two neckties. I love the little vintage button detail too! If you’re not keen on making your own, I would definitely recommend Lianna’s pieces, though they’re a little pricey. I actually love her scarves with the Fringe too.
How To Style Long Hair Short | A Beautiful Mess
When it comes to hair, we all want something different. Straight haired girls will spend hours with the curling tong and curly haired girls will do the same with straightening irons. We change colours like it’s going out of style, tease, back comb, and blow dry. But all these things are (kind of) temporary. When you have short hair you can clip in extensions, but when you want to go from long to short you’re kind of limited in your options - it’s chop off or put up! This is a great tutorial on how to go from long to short and back again without the use of scissors. It’s not super quick to do, but once you get the hang of it I’m sure you will be able to add it to your style book!
Needlepoint Purse | Craft
Needlepoint is one of those crafts that I’ve never attempted because it’s really just… so old fashioned! Same with macrame. But after seeing this bag I’ve changed my mind! I especially love the colours used in this bag. This would be perfect for carrying all my crafty things when I travel - magazines, thread, etc. Now to find a cool macrame project to get me inspired!
Valentine’s Friendship Bracelets | Purl Bee
Guys, I forgot how fun it is to make friendship bracelets! I’ve started making some for my end of year craft stall and I’ve been trying the stripes and chevron styles. I also forgot how time consuming these things were - I guess I was more patient when I was a teenager! I love the patterns on these bracelets, especially the heart patterns. If you’re going to make these for a friend, I suggest you start now!
DIY Book Clutch | Runway DIY
I’m always torn when I see DIYs that cut up books. Books are kind of sacred to me and I hate the thought of destroying one on purpose! But these covers for the Penguin Classics are just so gorgeous, I would love to have one to carry around and keep my purse and phone in. If you’re not keen on shelling out money on something to cut it up, you could always try a second hand book store or op shop. Just don’t get it mixed up with your other books or you may be searching for your wallet for a while…
Leather Corsage Necklace | Inspiration & Realisation
I recently bought some leather offcuts from etsy and I’m now looking for projects that I really want to use with it because it was quite expensive and I don’t want to waste it! I adore this necklace, especially the corsage-y leather blooms. I think that this would be a good use of my cuts!
