Have you heard of cronuts? They’re a hybrid of donuts and croissants. And they’re insanely popular in NYC at the restaurant they were created in. People are selling them for $30 a pop! Well if you want to try them but a) do not want to wait in line for 3 hours or b) do not live in NYC, then here’s the recipe to make them yourself!
I finally bought some studs after posting a million DIYs with them and now I don’t know what I want to do with them - they were so expensive that I don’t want to use them on just anything! Well I’ve found the project I want to use them with, and it’s this jumper!
Chain Bracelet | I Spy DIY for Refinery 29
I’m pretty sure the knotting in this project is macrame - if someone knows please comment! Anyway, irregardless of what type of knotting this is, it’s adorable! If you don’t want to use suede or can’t find it, you could use thick cord, cotton thread, or even that plastic cord you made bracelets out of when you were a kid!
How To Tie Your Summer Scarves | Refinery 29
Scarves are a great fashion accessory as they’re not only cheap but can really change a plain outfit. This is a great round up, and I particularly like the scarf shirt - I think I’ll try that one out tomorrow!
DIY Rodarte Star Clips | Refinery 29
As soon as I saw these clips I knew that it wouldn’t be long before there would be a DIY version! It is so so pretty and perfect to dress up your hair whether it’s long or short. I can’t afford the real version but the DIY version I can do!
Stained Glass Nail Polish Tutorial | Refinery 29
This was meant to be a tutorial for Christmas but who says you can’t have stained glass nails any day of the week?! The colours pictured are very Christmasy, but I would love pink, blue and yellow colours. This has white as the ‘lines’ but if you wanted to you could also go for ‘real’ stained glass and use black with bright colours over the top.
Prada Inspired Clutch | Refinery 29
I know some people think that luxury items like handbags and clothing are a waste of money, but one day I would love to own something by a high fashion brand! It’s not just the name - it’s the quality of the workmanship too (and OK, the name!) Until the day I have a spare $1000 to blow on something extravagant though, I’m going to go the DIY route, just like with this pretty jewel encrusted clutch! There’s nothing quite like a bit of faux-bling to dress up a LBD, and when it’s this cheap to re-create, why wouldn’t you want one of your own?!
4 Kick-Ass New Ways to Braid Your Hair | Refinery 29
Well the title is pretty self-explanatory, but I have to say the two bun styles really tickle my fancy! I have always wanted to learn how to fishtail braid, I think this is a great motivator!
Glitter Collar | Refinery 29
For my birthday in April this year, I’m going to have a glitter party! Everyone is going to have to glitter up or face the consequences (which will be a glitter bomb to the hair) I’m pretty sure I have enough DIYs on here to dress head to toe in glitter. I’m going to make this for myself to go over the top of my favourite black dress… and my glitter shoes, glitter nails, glitter hand bag…
Have You Heard Of? | Refinery 29
Refinery 29 is my number one go to for fashion & beauty advice. It’s like a funny, quirky best friend that has impeccable taste. You have probably seen references to it on my blog already, especially as they have a fantastic DIY section! But that’s not the only section they have - here are a couple with some great links:
College Fashion: Beat The Lazies With A Crisp, Clean Desk; Weatherproof Book Bags To Beat The Wintry Mix; Finals Week Dressing (AKA Roadtesting The Formal PJ); How To Dress Up But Still Feel Dressed Down; Living On $40 A Week
Of course there is also a myriad of Beauty and Hair tutorials, culture, art and home articles and even pages dedicated to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Franciso, Washington D.C. and Miami!
4 DIY Collars | Refinery 29
Decorated and detachable collars were a big thing in 2011 and hopefully they will continue in 2012 because I’m loving the DIYs people are creating. These 4 are a mixture of permanent collar designs and detachable collars. I personally love the orange collar with the brooch - like a gorgeous necklace!
7 Stylin’ New Years Eve Dress and ‘Do Combos | Refinery 29
If you’ve been invited to a party for New Years Eve but have no idea of what to wear or how to do your hair, well then here’s a great round up of styles for all ladies! I personally love the one shouldered dress/bun combo. Of course you don’t need to go out and buy a dress - check the pics for something you already have and dress it up with accessories and your amazing personality!
Potato Print Dress | Refinery 29
How amazing is this dress?! And done with potato prints no less! The amazing creativity of people out there never fails to excite me. They used a cheapo dress for this DIY but you could do this on a tshirt or jeans.
Style Crush | Shawna Strayhorn, Refinery 29
My style is very much influenced by the internet, and in particular fashion bloggers. I like celebrities but let’s be honest - most of them are styled by someone else! I have a folder on my Favourites toolbar called ‘Fashion’ where I just chuck all my favourite people straight into and I figured it was time to start sharing with you!
The first is the amazing Shawna, Director of Marketing at Refinery 29. Can I just say, as soon as I saw this picture I was like, I need to knot my maxi skirt like that! And wear a tshirt with it! And get a pair of boots like that! That’s what I mean about style - it immediately makes you want to emulate the look. Plus Shawna has inspired me to wear that hot red lipstick I’ve been umming and awing about. Life’s too short for pink!
Updo Buns For Summer | Refinery 29
I’m pretty in love with that first bun, though I know it’s probably hideous to a lot of folks! Including guys. Guys don’t get fashion. This is apparently called a ‘unicorn bun’. Haha! Awesome. I’m also feelin’ that second bun, the perfect work do, though I doubt I could get it that neat. And the last one - totally my style because it’s meant to be messy.
